You Have a Story, Now Let Us Get Pictures

A beautiful picture book cannot be only words. It needs lovely illustrations too. Pictures are like "photos" of the story. They let readers see at a glance what the main character looks like, where they are standing, and what they are doing. We can ask AI to be our "little painter" and help draw the story you wrote in the last lesson. But the AI painter is special: it cannot read minds. You have to "say it clearly," or it will not draw what you want.

Step One: Pick an Art Style

An "art style" is how the picture looks. Just like different painters have different styles, AI can copy lots of styles too. Here are some common ones: watercolor (soft colors, like they have been blurred by water), crayon (thick, slightly fuzzy edges), colored pencil (thin, with pencil texture), cartoon (big eyes, bright colors), and paper-cut (like shapes cut from colored paper and pasted on). First, think: "What do I want my picture book to look like?" For example, the "flying cat" from last lesson looks extra gentle in watercolor, and extra lively in crayon.

Step Two: Describe the Picture Clearly

This step is the most important! The AI painter cannot guess what is in your head. You have to tell it every detail, like you are describing a painting to someone over the phone. A good "picture description" usually has three things: who the main character is (what animal or person, what they look like), where they are (what scene, what time of day), and what they are doing (actions, expressions). For example, do not just say "draw a cat." Say: "A round, chubby orange kitten standing on top of a very, very tall tree, with both little paws stretched out as if about to fly. The background is an evening sky with a few pink clouds." See, the character, place, action, time, and colors are all clear.

Step Three: Not Happy? Draw It Again

It is totally normal if the first picture is not perfect! Sometimes the AI painter will turn the cat tail into a paintbrush or draw a wobbly tree. Do not worry. You can "give AI little suggestions" and ask it to draw again. For example: "Please make the cat eyes bigger, like two round grapes." "Please change the background to a blue daytime sky, not evening." "Please make the cat look happier." After a few tries, the picture will get closer and closer to what is in your head. Remember: AI is your helper, but the one who makes the final decision is you.

Quick Practice

Ask Mom or Dad to help you open an AI drawing tool, and describe one scene from your last lesson story. First pick an art style, then describe the main character, place, action, and colors clearly. If the picture is not right, give one specific little suggestion and draw it again. Save the picture you like best. Next lesson we will combine it with your story!
